Aside from the occasional early intrepid traveller, serious tourism began in the Cooma district during the construction of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme in the 1950s, and developed significantly from that time as snow sports became more popular and the NSW ski fields progressed.
But are you looking for more than a skiing weekend or holiday?
Why not look to the Monaro and High Country for what the region can offer in all seasons – the magnificent Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme, astounding scenery, arts and crafts, gardens, annual events, horse riding, hiking, fishing, flying, cycling, motor cycling, rural delights, history… they’re all here!
